This is a highlight of the progress report on Kenya’s implementation of its APRM Programme of Action.

The main thrust of the media campaign is not just to give feedback on the Country Report but equally to focus on what has been done and what requires to be done to address the major governance challenges facing the country.

A popular version of the Country Review Report has also been developed both in English and Swahili.

The APRM process involves broad-based consultations with Kenyans from all walks of life and across the whole country. The popular version will ensure that as many Kenyan’s as possible have access to the findings of the APRM process in a format and language that is accessible to ordinary Kenyans.

In his foreword to the progress report, the Minister for Planning and National Development, Henry Obwocha, says the Programme of Action elaborates the country’s commitment to address the challenges identified during the APRM process.

The report details achievements made since 30 June 2006 towards the realisation of the Programme of Action.

Though considerable progress has been made, the Minister says, the achievement of lasting improvements in governance represent a formidable challenge that requires focused and sustained effort to build stronger institutions that are able to effectively apply the law and manage public resources with integrity.

The Kenya Government, he says, remains committed to the APRM process as good governance is a precondition if Kenya is to achieve its vision of becoming a prosperous country, providing a high quality of life for all its people.
