NEPAD promotes African media skills by training the trainers

The NEPAD communication unit, in conjunction with the German Technical Co-operation Agency (GTZ) and Deutsche Welle TV Training Centre, has convened a training program titled "Train the Trainer".

The two-week training course will held in Brazzaville, Congo, from 4-15 December 2006 for journalists from Burundi, Chad, Congo, DRC, Gabon and Rwanda.

The objectives of the training are :
- To create an understanding of the potential and importance of training to increase the quality and effectiveness of media organisations in the light of growing international competition and technical innovation.

- To develop a vision on the organisational and managerial skills needed to enable media organisations to reap full benefit from their training activities as well as ideas on how this can be achieved.

- To impart the electronic media and production skills in radio and television needed for the development and implementation of training activities.

- To develop skills and techniques for the identification of training needs among existing staff groups, including technical staff, journalists, program-makers, and managers.

- To develop the skills needed for the design, organisation, supervision, evaluation and delivery of training activities.

The course contents include :
- Identification of training needs
- Defining learning objectives
- Design of course concepts based on learning objectives
- Use of methods and media
- Communications skills
- Analytical skills
- Evaluation techniques and feedback.
