African Heads of States established the Secretariat of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) in 2002, as a mechanism aimed at realizing the NEPAD vision and its programmes. The NEPAD vision envisages an Africa-led and Africa-owned process of socio-economic transformation of the continent, in a manner that addresses linked issues of poverty eradication, sustainable economic development and relocation of the African continent within the global mainstream.
The NEPAD Secretariat takes leadership from the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government, NEPAD Heads of State and Government Implementation Committee and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission.
