The African Union (AU), NEPAD, Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and other selected stakeholders held a consultative meeting at the NEPAD Secretariat headquarters at Midrand, South Africa, on 7-10 November 2006, to accelerate implementation of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP)-Sirte decisions.

The purpose of the meeting was twofold :

 To share and exchange information on programmes and actions in the areas of agriculture, environment and natural resources between RECs, NEPAD and the AU Commission for better coordination, synergies and support for effective implementation.

 Within the context of CAADP and the Sirte Declaration, to discuss the armonisation and alignment of efforts between RECs, NEPAD and the AU, and define roles based on each institution’s areas of comparative advantage. This includes systems for coordination and reporting.
